Recent years biological coverage in the mass media has been dominated not by animals but by plants; specifically, by genetically modified crop plants, the most tangible products of the recent revolution in molecular genetics. The phenomenal economic potential of such crops (and, more recently, the environmental and ethical issues that they raise) has promoted an exponential increase in plant- (mostly angiosperm-) related molecular genetics and genomics research, and that has begun to revitalise studies of plant growth and development.ru_RU
