Strategy of the Institute
The Institute plans to continue the declared directions of research, to develop new scientific directions for Kazakhstan. In particular, paleogenetic studies are very important for solving issues of the national history of Kazakhstan. For this, the only highly specialized laboratory in Kazakhstan for the analysis of ancient DNA was created. DNA analysis of valuable archaeological finds, testifying to our national history, carried out by Kazakhstani scientists, will preserve Kazakhstani priority in genetic research of our ancient artifacts, strengthen the authority of Kazakhstani scientists on the world stage, but also, most importantly, preserve our national heritage.
The accumulated results of fundamental and applied research in the field of medicine, as well as long and fruitful cooperation with a number of large medical institutions of the Republic, allow us to enter the path of commercialization and develop predictive and personalized approaches to reduce the incidence rate and targeted therapy of a number of socially significant diseases. : oncological diseases (inherited and sporadic cases), cardiovascular diseases, nervous diseases (family inheritance of epilepsy, etc.).
The possibilities of genetic analysis for the development of sports medicine are recognized all over the world. We have conducted pilot studies with students of the Olympic Reserve School and a number of fitness centers, which also showed the need to introduce genetic analysis methods to select the right training programs for professional athletes, to determine sports inclinations in children and amateurs.
Our experience and knowledge in determining the genetic load in populations of plants, animals and humans in ecologically unfavorable regions of Kazakhstan, developed technologies for assessing the genetic risk for the population affected by technogenic impact and people who, due to professional employment, are in contact with mutagenic factors, is in great demand since the problems ecological character in Kazakhstan remain relevant. In this aspect, we will continue to work both independently and within the framework of established cooperation with other organizations.
The development of domestic pharmacological preparations is widely carried out by both chemical scientists and biologists. Since the Institute has a well-developed system of standard short-term tests for testing the genotoxic effect using model organisms of different levels of organization (bacteria, Drosophila, animal and human cells), we plan to further participate in preclinical trials of domestic drugs as part of an order for performing research services from drug development organizations.
The collection of fast-growing forms of woody plants available at the Institute and advanced technologies of clonal micropropagation of forest cultures allow landscaping areas with certified standard planting material in the shortest possible time. These developments also represent significant potential for commercialization.
The results of genetic selection studies of Kazakhstani breeds of sheep and cattle made it possible to develop a basis for large-scale molecular genetic certification of valuable breeding producers and domestic breeds of animals that are valuable in the domestic and foreign markets. We hope that obtaining a certificate for molecular genetic certification of agricultural animals from the International Society for the Study of Animal Genetics (ISAC), expected in the near future, will significantly raise the rating of our organization in this service market.
We associate the prospects for the development of fundamental problems of genetics and cell biology being developed at the Institute both with the development of target programs of republican significance in the field of ecology, medicine and history, and with international projects and PhD training programs.
